The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Sleep Technologist for the Department of Medicine.
The Sleep Technologist will work under the general direction of the Medical Director/Principal Investigator to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in-center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A Sleep Technologist is able to perform all basic functions of the lab and is credentialed in sleep technology.
In addition, the incumbent will work with the PI to oversee research study protocols, manage protocols as necessitated by study design. The Technologist must be able to recognize and address adverse events, protocol deviations, and protocol modifications. The Sleep Technologist must follow policies of HIPAA, the IRB, and study sponsors including the NIH and FDA, and be able to work effectively with study coordinators, PIs, and other personnel to coordinate the flow of participants and data.
This position will require flexibility in timing of work shifts as it will involve both day and evening shifts for subject visits as well as overnight shifts to conduct overnight sleep studies. In addition, this position requires being available on call in the evening and night in order to answer questions from research subjects on the correct application of home-based sleep testing as well as study staff at sites in different time zones on troubleshooting problems with CPAP.
Graduate from an education program in polysomnography accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) preferred
Sleep credential from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT), the American Board of Sleep Medicine (RST) or the National Board of Respiratory Care (CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS) within 18 months of employment required
Three to five years of polysomnography training/experience required
Because Sleep Techs do not require a degree to be certified, we would substitute the degree for any of the above certifications with additional experience. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
