The Registered Polysomnographer works under general supervision in a laboratory to conduct sleep studies. He or she performs comprehensive testing, data analysis and treatment of sleep disorders. This includes patient interviews, education and explanation of polysomnographic tests and procedures; maintenance and monitoring of equipment; as well as collaboration with others on the medical care team.

• Collect, analyze and integrate patient information (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status, and
• pertinent medical/social history) to identify and meet patient-specific needs. Determine final testing
• parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols. Complete
• and verify documentation.
• Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
• Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
• Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) titrations.
• Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and
• make adjustments, if necessary.
• Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as
• continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
• Provides age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and
• geriatric patients.
• Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines and identify clinical events (such as respiratory
• events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals etc.)
• Respond to study participant’s procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.
• Notify appropriate medical staff of problems or concerns regarding patient care.

Additional Information: Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an Associate's Degree with emphasis in Polysomnography and Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist OR successful completion of a Polysomnography program with a minimum of 1 year associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility AND Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
