The School of Public Health division of Epidemiology and Community Health is seeking applications for two - 75% (30 hours a week) Sleep Technician - Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA Study), Community Health Assistant positions (4913).
Starting pay is dependent upon the selected candidate’s relevant qualifications and internal equity: $19.52 - $22.05 hourly; $30,451.20 - $34,398.00 annually at 75% time (30 hours per week)
Work Arrangements: Core business hours are 2:00pm-8:30pm with some flexibility on start and end time which may vary between 30-60 minutes; 4 - 6 home visits each week to research participants who mostly live in St Paul with a few in neighboring cities. (mileage will be reimbursed); Office location is Epidemiology Clinical Research Center (ECRC), 1100 Washington Ave S Ste 201, Minneapolis, MN 55415

The Sleep Technician for the Sleep ancillary to the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Sleep will be responsible for the following:
60% Conduct evening visits in participant homes primarily in St Paul with a few in the surrounding cities to administer consent forms if needed. Attach sleep monitoring equipment and explain the procedures involved with use of the polysomnography, actigraphy units and 24 Blood Pressure monitors. Administer sleep questionnaires and explain use of the sleep diary. Collecting equipment from the previous day.
Each visit is anticipated to take between 60 to 90 minutes, with up to an additional 30 mins to 1 hour of transportation. (mileage will be reimbursed)
20% Recruiting and scheduling 4 to 6 participants per week.
20% Download and review study data and electronically transfer data to the off-site “Reading Center”. Cleaning/Sanitizing equipment after use. Prepare participant feedback/result letters.
Certification in all areas of performance will be required.
Training will be provided prior to the beginning of study operations.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Required Qualifications:
Three (3) years of education and/or work experience
Must be able to garner trust and ensure confidentiality to establish excellent rapport with study participants, many of whom are native Spanish speaking individuals. (This is a long term study concerned with retention of the originally recruited participants from the early 2000’s.)
Must have a reliable vehicle to go to the homes of research participants in the evening to administer questionnaires, to instruct and set up the devices. Majority of home visits will be in St Paul with some in the neighboring cities. (mileage will be reimbursed)
Computer skills working with Microsoft Word/Excel or something similar
Attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience conducting research interviews, data collection and scheduling.
Experience performing technical procedures such as sleep monitoring, anthropometry, blood pressures and applying monitoring devices such as Glucose and Heart monitors with research subjects.
Experience working with people from diverse racial and economic backgrounds.
Experience setting up and maintaining research clinic operations
Experience recruiting and retaining participants in a research study
