Description
Expected Starting Salary Range: 24.34 - 29.87 SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Responsible for respiratory therapy duties including oxygen administration, application of ventilators, initiation, assessment of, and recommendations for respiratory care services including diagnostic studies under physician supervision.
SCOPE: Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders; involving polysomnography; diagnostic and therapeutic services; patient care and education associated with sleep study testing for the Sleep Center. Work under the supervision of the clinical director/medical director or other board certified Sleep Medicine physician. Effectively troubleshoot technical problems and demonstrate competence in the application of polysomnography skills; solving problems; making decisions; and setting priorities. Follow procedural protocols when collecting and/or analyzing clinical data and utilize resources to ensure quality and accuracy of clinical data. Provide oversight of other staff. Demonstrate clinical leadership. Serve as a resource and consultant to staff. With direction from a Registered Respiratory Therapist or medical staff member; may oversee more difficult procedures.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Practice Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments, if necessary, including applying electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards, and performing appropriate physiologic calibrations (when age and cognitive function appropriate) ensuring proper signals and making adjustments, if necessary. Follows procedural protocols (such as PAP titration, oxygen titration, research protocols, sleep study scoring and analysis of data, etc.) ensuring collection and analysis of appropriate data. Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic interventions, such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.) Cleans and sterilizes all equipment after each sleep study as per infection control procedures. Ensures work area is clean and presentable at end of shift.
Documentation Demonstrates compliance with established practices in documentation. Documents routine observations, changes in procedure and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnography results. Provides thorough documentation during data collection based on direct observation of the patient through real time comments and narrative notes. Follows procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, end tidal carbon dioxide values, respiratory and heart rates, etc.).
Procedures Understand and apply appropriate policies and procedures for work flow, testing, and/or methodology. Perform dedicated duties on a timely basis. Recognize and/or troubleshoot significant findings. Appropriately document work as necessary.
Customer Service Act as a patient advocate and strive to better meet the needs of, and to support, patients and/or families.
Assessment Assesses patients, clients and families and recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status using a family centered approach to care, plans and prioritizes care to meet patient, client and family needs.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
