Senior Technologist works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. This individual functions independently of direct supervision, to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. The Senior Technologist also supervises and coordinates the activities of the other technicians. The applications of recording devices to the patient, cleaning/sterilization of equipment and monitoring of polysomnograms are further duties of the technologist. The technologist must recognize sleep pathology when it occurs in the laboratory and respond with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Sets up, calibrates and monitors recording equipment necessary for PSG, MSLT, NPT and Certified Public AccountantP/BIPAP to ensure artifact free tracings.
Recognizes and records clinical and physiological relevant events.
Detects and corrects equipment malfunctions.
Interprets polysomnogram data.
Interviews patients to obtain sleep history.
Handles phone calls; answers questions for patients and physicians.
Prepares for patients in high-risk situations, as with cardiac or pulmonary problems.
Aids in the training of new trainees.
Supervises and coordinates activities of other outpatients.
Checks inventories and order supplies as needed.
Assists with general maintenance and organization of the lab area.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of electronics, instruments and equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and handle maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of sleep disorders, medication effects and related diseases.
Ability to monitor sleep stages and other pertinent physiological functions.
Ability to ensure patient education, safety and comfort and assimilate information from several sources and anticipate initiation of care in accordance with protocols.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
Board registered Polysomnographic Technologist or ABSM Sleep Technologist required.
Basic Life Support Certification required and must obtained within 6 months of employment.
Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.

Salary Range
$24.31 - $36.46 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
