Job Responsibilities
Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.
Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and proper working condition. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if qualified and as needed. May advise on upgrades for performance enhancements.
Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
Functions independently to record sleep/wake physiology.Performs diagnostic and therapeutic polysomnography in accordance with physician's orders and departmental policies/procedures.Ensures quality/clarity of recording along with detailed documentation
Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments as necessary.
Summarizes sleep study results within a technical report to be presented at clinical case conferences.
Assists in the training of new technicians by demonstrating laboratory procedures and techniques.
Assists in maintaining a clinical database which includes sleep data files, oximetry data and other pertinent records.
Education
Associate's Degree
Experience
An associate or higher degree in polysomnographic technology is required.
Graduate of a polysomnographic technology education program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Approximately 2 years of related experience.
Candidates with a limited permit in polysomnographic technology may be considered, depending on the role. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology regarding cardiopulmonary and neurophysiological systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of sleep physiology and diagnostic sleep record techniques.
Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed
Demonstrated knowledge and aptitude regarding computers and electronic equipment.
