The School of Public Health division of Epidemiology and Community Health is seeking applications for a part-time (30 hours a week) Research Sleep Technician for the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Study (4913 Community Health Assistant).
Starting pay is dependent upon the selected candidate’s relevant qualifications and internal equity: $21.54-$22.90 hourly ($33,602.40-$35,724.00 annually based on 30 hours per week)
Work Arrangements: Hybrid; Core business hours are 2:00pm-8:30pm; M-F; Must have a reliable vehicle to go to the homes of research participants in the afternoons and evenings to administer questionnaires, to instruct and set up the devices. Majority of home visits will be in St Paul with some in the neighboring cities (mileage will be reimbursed). The Research Sleep Technician for the Sleep ancillary to the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Sleep will be responsible for the following:
40% Recruiting and scheduling 2 to 4 participants per week.
Each visit is anticipated to take between 60 to 90 minutes, with up to an additional 30 mins to 1 hour of transportation. (mileage will be reimbursed)
40% Interviewing, performing procedures and applying wearable devices.
Conduct afternoon and evening visits in participant homes primarily in St Paul with a few in the surrounding cities to administer consent forms if needed. Attach sleep monitoring equipment and explain the procedures involved with use of the polysomnography, actigraphy units and 24 Blood Pressure monitors. Administer sleep questionnaires and explain use of the sleep diary. Collecting equipment from the previous day.
20% Download and review study data and electronically transfer data to the off-site “Reading Center”. Cleaning/Sanitizing equipment after use. Prepare participant feedback/result letters.
Certification in all areas of performance will be required.
Training will be provided prior to the beginning of study operations

Required Qualifications:
Three (3) years of education and/or work experience
Must be able to garner trust and ensure confidentiality to establish excellent rapport with study participants, many of whom are native Spanish speaking individuals. (This is a long term study concerned with retention of the originally recruited participants from the early 2000’s.)
Must have a reliable vehicle to go to the homes of research participants in the afternoons and evenings to administer questionnaires, to instruct and set up the devices. Majority of home visits will be in St Paul with some in the neighboring cities. (mileage will be reimbursed)
Computer skills working with Microsoft Word/Excel or something similar
Attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience conducting research interviews, data collection and scheduling.
Experience performing technical procedures such as sleep monitoring, anthropometry, blood pressures and applying monitoring devices such as Glucose and Heart monitors with research subjects.
Experience working with people from diverse racial and economic backgrounds.
Experience setting up and maintaining research clinic operations
Experience recruiting and retaining participants in a research study
Experience working as part of a team
**Preference will be given to applicants fluent in Spanish and English (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
